Can I Get Financial Support in A Domestic Violence Case?

Every day, hundreds of people are victims of domestic violence. In most cases, it is women who are being abused and bullied by their spouses and partners. However, there are a few rare cases where men were bullied by women.

Regardless of gender, if you are being abused, you should seek legal help immediately. Domestic violence is one of the worst things that could happen to a person, for several reasons:
  • It changes the way you live, completely
  • It puts you in a very difficult and complicated financial situation
  • You are constantly being harassed, beaten up or physically and mentally abused
  • It puts both you and your children in danger
  • You will live in constant fear and may develop anxiety and paranoia

If you are looking to escape your home and get to safety, contact Salt Lake City Domestic Violence Attorneys. They will help you file a domestic violence restraining order against your abuser, and help you get as far away as possible from them.

You may also be eligible to obtain financial support. Here is everything that you should know about financial support and how to obtain it.

Easily Obtainable

If you are being constantly abused by your partner or spouse, your living conditions will continue to deteriorate. The faster you react, the more chance you have of preventing any future abuse and getting the help that you desperately need.

For starters, you should speak with one of our attorneys. Do not worry about paying for legal services; the initial consultation is usually free of charge, without any legal requirements or obligations. Our attorneys will advise you what you should do next, and help you file a restraining order should you chose to do so.

Filing a domestic violence restraining order is easier than you thought. All you need is proof of domestic abuse, and proof that your life is in danger and that you are being abused either verbally or physically on a daily basis. Keep in mind though that domestic violence restraining orders are temporary.

Financial Help

If you are forced to flee from your home, you will require financial support to do so. You can get a temporary custody order, which allows you to bring your children with you, far from the dangers of the abuser. Usually, your abuser will be prohibited from having visitations at all. The court will consider yours and the child’s best interests before making a decision.

You may be able to get the court to order your abuser to pay certain bills for you. You can also obtain temporary child support, or spousal support (just like in a divorce case). This is all temporary until your situation comes to an end and you are able to return to your home safely and continue with your life.

Remember to contact Domestic Violence Attorneys in Salt Lake City, and seek their help and legal protection. Attorneys will do everything to help get you to safety, and protect you and your children from further abuse. Act immediately, before you experience further abuse and pain.

One thing that you’ve probably noticed about Utah’s divorce laws is that there is a 90-day waiting period before a judge signs decree of divorce. But why does Utah have a 90-day waiting period for divorce? And how to overcome it?  These are the questions we asked our Draper divorce attorney at Emy A Cordano, Attorney At Law. How will this affect the child’s relationship with the other parent, and does the noncustodial parent have any rights? Here is how parental relocation disputes are solved in Utah. A Relocation Dispute When the custodial parent decides to move out of the state, travel to another country or go abroad, the child will travel with the parent. If there is no agreement with the other parent, the noncustodial parent may file a relocation dispute. These disputes are usually filled for the following reason: The noncustodial parent will be away from the child The custody plan will get disrupted The child will be away from a parent The...
